John is a qualified banking lawyer and specialist in banking and corporate finance project advisory, risk management issues, tendering and relationship building with commercial partners.
John most recently led a specialist front line banking team for Clydesdale Bank, providing a centralised service to SMEs and commercial business customers largely in the commercial real estate sector. For over ten years, he headed up Clydesdale Bank’s corporate and business banking legal team and represented the Bank on the legal committee of the Committee of Scottish Clearing Banks.
Previously, John worked with Dorman Jeffrey, Arthur Andersen and Dundas & Wilson where he acted mainly for the leading Scottish clearing banks and Bank of Nova Scotia. His early career was in retail management, operating several Oddbins Wine Merchants’ branches. He was a founder investor in Dublin-based Celtic Whiskey Shop and remains a non-executive director and a member of the group’s buying team. John also serves as a non-executive director of the charitable trust, The Hidden Gardens.
John holds a Diploma in Law, LLB and a BA (Hons) in Business Law and Industrial Relations all from the University of Strathclyde.
